Nick Capra Discusses Directing ‘Secrets Between Uncles And Nephews’
Nick Capra’s second feature film, Secrets Between Uncles And Nephews, drops today on Lucas Entertainment with the first scene in a set of four.
With Nick Capra’s 18 years of experience in the gay porn industry, this movie thematically follows up his first movie, Secrets My Daddy Never Told Me.
Nick took some time to share his insights into his creative process and his attraction to the stepdad/stepson genre of adult entertainment —
Tell me about your process when writing the script for your new movie.
The process for the new movie unraveled like a gay porn soap opera… Families. Secrets. Scandal. But, like every second installment to a series, I wanted to go bigger.
How can you go wrong with hot man sex and some good drama?
Many gay men will be able to relate to the characters of the straight dad who is in complete denial over his son’s sexuality. And the closeted gay son, who is desperately seeking his dad’s approval.
Then there is the iconic daddy, Adam Russo, playing my husband. We are in a relationship of ten (plus) years, which has lost its spark.
Drew Dixon plays my estranged son, who has an axe to grind with me for leaving him and his mom for a man.
And, through a series of events… lots of secrets… and sexual escapades… everybody comes to their truth.
When did you decide you wanted to write a new feature?
I didn’t decide to write this one. It was decided for me.
The script writer for the first Secrets movie wasn’t available to do the second installment, so I begged a good friend of mine, who writes M4M erotica, to write the script with me.
Why do you like working in the stepdad/stepson genre?
My dad was really hard on my as a kid. He inevitably disowned me for my sexuality, which I never got over.
Creating broken dad/son scenarios comes easy to me.
The great part about these stories is that they find a place of healing.
How does this movie differ from your first movie, and did you approach it different?
I used the same formula for both features. I approach the sex as an extension of the story.
The characters and their relationships in the second feature got more edgy. There’s definitely more plot twists.
Tell me about your experiences directing the movie.
I had the Lucas Entertainment production value, and amazing performers for both features. So, I really couldn’t go wrong.
Michael Lucas stepped back and allowed me creative freedom. Whenever I hit a wall he would step in, listen, and give me input.
I met with each member of the cast, gave them my vision for their characters, and allowed them to add input. I don’t micro manage my cast.
As a performer for so many years, nothing kills the mojo more than an overbearing director.
Do you have any future plans you’d like to share?
I think it’s getting time to tell my story through a good memoir. Here’s hoping!
